what is the difference between the Sport pilot certification and the private pilot certification?

Could I use the sport certification towards the private pilot course?

They are separate certifications. As a rule of thumb or comparison, the Sport Pilot Certification involves approx. one-half the work and time requirements of the Private Pilot Certification. (Please see FAR 61.301 to 61.327)

Thank you! What I was thinking of doing is getting my sport pilot first, then possibly going to a private pilot license over time. So would there be any point in me doing the sport pilot courses? Or just skip right to the private pilot?

Yes, you may use your Sport Pilot Certification to move up and pursue a Private Pilot Certification.

As a CFI myself, I would suggest that you pursue the Private Pilot Certification directly, as it is much more useful and has less restrictions.

For the work involved and what your end goals may be, the Private Pilot is often the most efficient option for students. -You’re welcome! And HAPPY LEARNING and FLYING!
