Getting your IFR Rating will make you a more competent and capable pilot. You will learn more about the air traffic control system, weather, aircraft systems, aircraft instruments, and how to operate safely without visual references.
In addition, you wont have fear of being stuck and unable to get home if the weather “goes IFR”. It is a rewarding process. I still remember the feeling of satisfaction the first time I shot an instrument approach on my own. Breaking out and seeing the runway lights ahead gave me an immense feeling of satisfaction!

In my personal opinion, obtaining my instrument rating has increased my flying skills signficantly. The principles that you learn during instrument flight are easily applied to VFR flying. In turn, it makes you a more confident, professional pilot by utilizing more resources available to you, and also helps to improve your ‘stick’ skills.
Happy flying and stay out of those trees!
