According to the FARs, you must receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor OR complete a home-study course on aeronautical knowledge areas that are covered in FAR 61.105(b).

With that being said, you must receive an endorsement to take the FAA written exam by an authorized instructor. The King Schools’ Ground School & Test Prep courses can provide the instructor endorsement for your certificate or rating sought, provided that you complete and pass the three practice exams at the end of the course.

Yes, you can take the FAA exam before approaching a flight instructor if you use a home-study course, and King Schools can help! View the link to find information about the Ground School & Test Prep courses that we offer!
